Linden Area Chamber of Commerce
Linden, Texas, is a welcoming northeast Texas community with a rich Lone Star history and a strong vision for the future. Like many small Southern towns, Linden has weathered war, economic hardship, public health crises, and yes, even weather (The Cyclone of 1908). What sets Linden apart is its commitment to adapting, embracing new opportunities, and the desire to build a vibrant, resilient community for future generations!
Established as the county seat of Cass County in 1852, Linden was named after Texas Legislator Jeremiah "Major" Wood's hometown of Linden, Tennessee. The community grew around its courthouse, schools, sawmills, and locally owned businesses, while the establishment of a post office strengthened regional trade and communication. By the late nineteenth century, Linden had developed a thriving economy rooted in timber and agriculture.
Today, Linden continues to honor its heritage while investing in its future. Its historic downtown, community events, and local landmarks reflect a strong sense of civic pride and preservation of the character that has defined the city for generations. Residents enjoy a safe, close-knit community, quality schools, scenic parks, and the peaceful lifestyle of rural East Texas with convenient access to larger regional centers.
Linden is also known for its remarkable musical legacy and was named “Music City Texas” in 2003 and recently recognized as a “Music Friendly Texas Community” by the state of Texas. As the claimed hometown of legendary artists including Don Henley, T-Bone Walker, and Scott Joplin, the city celebrates its cultural heritage as a source of community pride. Linden's former American Legion Auditorium, renovated in 2003, became the Music City Texas Theater and now serves as an important driver of tourism.
